12. The Faith Love Complex (Love)

So I’ve been thinking a lot about faith—particularly how it is a choice, literally something that we choose—this week because of the lesson in Elder's quorum this week and the talk that was given to prepare for it, and I’ve also been thinking a lot about love… because I’m a 20 year old with raging teenage hormones.” yeah some of them haven’t gotten the memo that I turned 20.

When it comes to loving someone we all want to be swept off our feet and “fall” in love with someone. As odd as it sounds, we would all like to have no power over the situation, and have an overwhelming—in the most literal sense of the word—flow of emotion carry us.

For example it isn't very often that we get home from a  date, our roommates ask us with bulging eyes and eager ears "so, have you decided wether or not you like her?" It's all about how did you feel and what is your current emotional state, because that is what we are craving.

I don’t want to have to choose whom to love someone. This actually happens. Many of us have felt that way before, but that feeling isn’t a lasting one. Eventually there will come a point where you must make the decision to love that same person that you were helplessly in love with not too long ago. The best part is that you can love them even after they do dumb things, or frustrating things. Your love for them doesn’t change because you made that decision and you are actively remembering those times when you are hopelessly in love. and more importantly you are actively creating more of those situations, which take real effort. Showing your affection in the way that really matters to that particular person. It because of this idea that we hear about the importance of a date night and what-not (personally I think that it is more about the little things, the random notes or flowers, the remembering of weird anniversaries, doing the dishes etc.)

The cool part is that upon doing these selfless acts—that require love—more feelings of love are created, making a beautiful cycle of serving and loving.
